Gene Y. Hu is a professional engineer licensed in New York, New Jersey, and California. After obtaining a bachelor of science degree in Civil Engineering from Columbia University in 1997 with a focus on structural engineering, he started his career working for a structural engineering firm where he performed various hands-on duties ranging from structural modeling, engineering, and analysis to becomiing a lead project engineer on differing types of building projects.
Thereafter, Gene obtained a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Stanford University. Upon obtaining his Masters degree, he worked as a project manager for a structural concrete contracting company in California, gaining more experience in the details, design, and management of complex construction projects. He returned to New York in 2003 to work as an independent consultant for various insurance companies. There he assisted in the development of engineering and managerial solutions for turning around distressed and delayed construction projects. Gene obtained his LEED AP certification in 2009.
Utilizing his expertise across multiple disciplines, Gene started HYKE Engineering & Management P.C. in 2004, which focused on consulting engineering for commercial building projects including structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural, building code consulting, and general construction management. GH Dwell was started in 2011 to handle the similar engineering/consulting disciplines but with a focus on residential projects. YK Structures was started by Gene in 2014 and it is dedicated solely to the practice of structural engineering for buildings and specialty projects.
